Monolaurine is the glycerol ester of lauric acid. This twelve C-atom long fatty acid occurs naturally in breast milk and certain vegetable oils (including coconut oil). The product is formulated to provide a delayed release.
The fatty acid monolaurin supports the resistance to viruses with a fat protein envelope (including influenza viruses, the Epstein Barr virus, the cytomegalovirus and herpes viruses have such an envelope). The monolaurin can bind to the fat protein envelope of these viruses, helping to reduce (further) multiplication and activity of the virus.
